According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) impact lifelong health and opportunities. "Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are potentially traumatic events that occur in childhood. ACEs can include violence, abuse, and growing up in a family with mental health or substance use problems. Toxic stress from ACEs can change brain development and affect how the body responds to stress. ACEs are linked to chronic health problems, mental illness, and substance misuse in adulthood. However, ACEs can be prevented." The Faces of ACEs Session provides tools for individuals, families, educators, youth serving professionals, and healthcare providers to understand, prevent and change the trajectory of adversities to positive childhood experiences. This session coupled with the Faces of ACEs Simulation Experience provides all participants with real life scenarios to protect children and promote healthy long term outcomes.
The Center for the Developing Child at Harvard University reports " What happens in early childhood can matter for a lifetime. To successfully manage our society’s future, we must recognize problems and address them before they get worse. In early childhood, research on the biology of stress shows how major adversity, such as extreme poverty, abuse, or neglect can weaken developing brain architecture and permanently set the body’s stress response system on high alert. Science also shows that providing stable, responsive, nurturing relationships in the earliest years of life can prevent or even reverse the damaging effects of early life stress, with lifelong benefits for learning, behavior, and health." The From the Womb... session provides parents, guardians, educators and youth serving professionals with an extensive overview of the importance of maximizing positive communication and experiences from in utero, through adolescents to young adulthood. Evidenced based strategies, techniques and resources provide critical tools for a critical cause.
According to the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP), "a Well-tailored training for caregivers of the elderly can significantly change the quality of care provided to seniors. This training, structured with compassion and comprehensive knowledge, brings forth the wisdom required to support and nurture older adults, particularly those grappling with dementia." Like NCCDP, the H.E.A.R.T. for Life Caregivers of Seniors training equips caregivers with vital skills to effectively support the elderly in their day-to-day lives. This training not only covers basic techniques for assisting with personal hygiene, medication monitoring, and health literacy— it also provides essential advocacy and care coordination skills which drastically improve the quality of healthcare services and outcomes for seniors. These curriculum modules are interactive and focus on creating a nurturing environment for families with intergenerational homes, as well as seniors who live alone. The facilitators have lived experience, having served as primary care givers for their loved ones and provide a vivid illustration for practical application.
